I came to this book an admirer of Alexander Hamilton and exited an admirer. While Hamilton was not successful in maintaining the Federalists as the primary force over Thomas Jefferson's agrarian and state's rights Republican Party, he did win the ultimate war of ideas. It also gave me an adrenal rush daily (especially if I played Call of Duty). So make sure you have some background or are willing to do some work if you expect to get the best this book has to offer. So, if you have some background in classical music and you want to sharpen your understanding of the period, I think this is easily one of the best books out there for that purpose. Especially in poor countries, "data" are sometimes nothing else that guesses (sometimes educated, sometimes not), and this may lead to enormous policy mistakes. A must for any student of the progressive era, and a fun time for anyone who enjoys history.. That is what matters here.. I am not used to expressing my sentiments and emotions, and there are times when the book seems a tad
William Howard Taft declared, "I am sure the automobile coming in as a toy of the wealthier class is going to prove the most useful of them all to all classes, rich and poor." Unlike his predecessors, who made public their disdain for the automobile, Taft saw the automobile industry as a great source of wealth for this country. Appendices provide information on the White House garage and stable, Taft’s speech to the Automobile Club of America and a glossary of terms and names.. The first president to acquire a car in office (Congress granted him three automobiles), Taft is responsible for there being a White House garage in 1909. This is a meticulously researched reappraisal of the oft-maligned Taft presidency focusing particularly on his cars, his relationship to the automobile and the role of the automobile in the politics of his day"A wonderful book.
