I suspect the previous reviewer was more in the market for a "popular history" of knitting, rather than an analysis of knitting as techne.Jo Turney's book, The Culture of Knitting, is an example of an emerging type of academic writing, that builds bridges between Critical Theory and other disciplines. An easy to enjoy book.. I picked through the essays searching for those that seemed somewhat funny or poignant and ignored the ones that made me yawn The e-book was cheap enough so I didn't feel shortchanged. It also gave me an adrenal rush daily (especially if I played Call of Duty). Read the book, then go spend a day (or a weekend) at the Niles Canyon Railway..
