Well, I wrote a review of this book a couple of weeks ago, just after I started it. This book reads like a badly-written doctoral thesis hurriedly turned into a book. It does NOT cover Bruegel's paintings of daily peasant life but rather his prolific output of outstanding landscape and fantasy drawings which were engraved and etched by others under his direction and oversight. It is functioning in the market place, after all, not simply within the walls of a secure academic unit or discipline.. This is a wonderful book for any lover of Sargent's work. This is a "must have" book for lovers of prints. Joanne Turney is a senior lecturer in History and Design at the Bath School of Art and Design. Her interests are in all aspects of "ordinary" contemporary visual and material culture, especially shopping, film and television, collecting, making and display techniques and tactics.
